Behind the scenes of our Incredible India video

To call India incredible is an understatement. I'm so lucky to travel to this beautifully diverse country so frequently, so when I was approached by the Incredible India tourism campaign to be part of their new film series, I jumped at the chance.

Getting ready to shoot the iconic closing shot from the video, with all the pigeons flying up in the background.

Getting ready to shoot the iconic closing shot from the video, with all the pigeons flying up in the background.

Earlier this year Jorja from the Naudic team and I worked with the Incredible India team to film the video, which was fun and daunting in equal measure! But despite my nerves at being in front of a camera, instead of designing clothes for the people in front of it, we're thrilled with the result.

Naudic has had a connection with India since the very beginning. It was the crisp cottons and beautiful embroideries the artisans there can create that drew us to base our manufacturing there. Since then we really have formed an emotional bond with the country and our talented network of contacts there.

I can't imagine ever getting sick of this view.

I can't imagine ever getting sick of this view.

I'm actually heading back to India tonight -- this time with no film crew in tow. But I will definitely be looking forward to soaking in the architecture, textiles, aromas and friendliness of this amazing land. If you ever get a chance to visit for yourself, don't hesitate.

Hello Hollywood and New York, New York

Taking a breather in Central Park

Taking a breather in Central Park

Hello friends!

I'm gratefully sleeping off my jetlag on Stradbroke Island today, but the glow of our recent whirlwind trip to the USA still lingers. Naudic made its official foray into the American market with a place at the New York trade show Coterie.

Introducing a new continent to the Naudic sensation

Introducing a new continent to the Naudic sensation

Australian brands and the Aussie way of life seem to be having a big moment in the States. The laid-back, bohemian style that Naudic has cultivated over the years was a hit at the trade show, but it was a fun surprise to find Australians lurking everywhere we went while we were away! Australian coffee shops are hugely popular on both US coasts, but I took it a step further by visiting an Australian gym in LA. Training Mate is run by some ex-Sydneysiders, and was such a great way to kick the jetlag and get the blood pumping after so many hours on a plane.

Also, LA is just gorgeous. I couldn't stop snapping when I was there -- take a look:

While most of our New York trip was devoted to the trade show, we made sure to do some touristy things, including visiting some completely OTT concept stores. Build your own customised Magnum ice cream? Don't mind if I do -- with extra gold dust please! The M&M concept store was so much fun we visited it again and again. They literally have the candies in every shade of the rainbow.

I don't even like M&Ms that much! But this place was amazing.

It was lovely to meet some new friendly faces and stockists overseas, but there's nothing like coming home to Australia. Thank you, friends, for your continued support of Naudic over the years! We feel so lucky to have this incredible network both at home and abroad.

Making our catwalk debut

Naudic celebrated a milestone last night with our very first runway show. Taking to the catwalk at Brisbane's Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival, we showcased some of our favourite looks from our upcoming Spring and High Summer ranges in front of a packed house for the McKinney's Jewellers Group Show. Take a peek at our models in action!

The models weren't the only ones who got to enjoy the scenery -- Jorja and I also tried out some of the props!

A winter beach getaway inspires for the year to come

Sunset over Noosa's main beach

Sunset over Noosa's main beach

I'm writing this sitting in one of the most glorious parts of the world: Noosa, on Queensland's Sunshine Coast. This area has the most glorious winter weather, when you can be outside for most of the day and everything you need is at your doorstep. Some people travel to escape from work but I find it such a source of creative inspiration.

I've been starting each day with a walk in the beautiful Noosa National Park -- gorgeous trails through the bushland where a glimpse of ocean through the trees still manages to take my breath away sometimes. Don't be surprised to see some of these cool, earthy tones making an appearance in the Naudic Winter 18 range!

It's always fun on holidays to pretend you're a local, and I've definitely managed to suss out my very favourite haunts on my many trips to Noosa over the years. You'll find the best ever roasted fennel, pear and walnut salad from Providore on Hastings Street -- a daily delight. Then afternoon drinks at Miss Moneypenny, or, for special occasions, a sunset dinner at Bistro C.

Mixing business with pleasure has been particularly rewarding on this trip, catching up with our Sunshine Coast clients -- many of whom I now count as friends -- planning for the upcoming Spring collection and booking in fashion parades. A highlight was dropping in on my beautiful friend and client Kate who runs The Eumundi Store, selling everything organic, friendly and local. Thanks for the yummiest bowl of soup I think I've ever eaten, Kate! While I was in bohemian Eumundi, I couldn't resist a visit to historic Berkelouw Books. I'm now engrossed in My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante.

Planning the Naudic Winter 2018 collection has been in full swing during my trip, and I honestly couldn't have picked a better location to be working from. With the ocean backdrop it was easy to imagine all you amazing Naudic women out there and what you'll want to be wearing when travelling, lunching with friends, and taking those early morning chilly walks or late afternoon strolls. There's a sneak peek above, but you can expect new shapes and special fabrics, with a focus on layering, comfort and ease of wear. It's classic Naudic... with some extras for you sporty chicks who like to mix it up.

Thank you, Noosa!

Incredible India: Festive planning, spa retreats and filming fun

I thought I had seen the best that India had to offer but this trip took the Indian experience to the next level.

I thought I had seen the best that India had to offer but this trip took the Indian experience to the next level.

My frequent trips to India are always a delight, but this time a special opportunity was presented to us to work with a team of creative people on the Incredible India tourism campaign. We've travelled across three cities and shot footage from Delhi to Agra and then onto Jaipur in Rajasthan. From the little snippets I've seen it looks so special. Incredible India indeed! Really looking forward to sharing this with you when it goes live in a few months.

I knew India could keep getting better and better as there is so much to see and experience, but as you start to feel all of the layers of magic it certainly gets into your bloodstream. I know after this trip it is going to be particularly hard to resettle back into normal life, whatever that is now.

With Raj, manager of the Naudic Delhi office

With Raj, manager of the Naudic Delhi office

We started off the work portion of the trip in the print studio, where we collaborate with some very talented people. We had such fun brainstorming over a great selection of newly inspired prints and hand-matched our selection with all the beautiful trims which will complement these perfectly.

We've also created a special Christmas collection for that crazy time of year when festivities are in full swing. Think low maintenance garmets that are easy to wear and travel-friendly, but with a high fashion vibe. Having had my hands buried in these gorgeous textiles over the past week, I am so excited about how stunning it will be. I can't wait to show you at the next round of showings and trade shows.

The view of the surrounding mountains is so incredible! Sorry, but this picture doesn't even come close to doing it justice.

The view of the surrounding mountains is so incredible! Sorry, but this picture doesn't even come close to doing it justice.

I always try to have a mini break while in India, and this trip we decided to escape to Ananda, an incredible spa in the country's north. I paid the retreat a visit three years ago and had forgotten just how sensational this place really is. There is something magical about the location and the ambience. Maybe it's the fact that you just wear the white kurta the whole time you are there? Just wearing something so comfortable and white makes you instantly switch off from work mode.

The we set up in the Naudic studio and moved onto more prints, embroideries and schiflis. This season is going to so bright and fun with new shapes and handiwork.

We look forward to catching up again very soon, when we get back out on the road to say hi!

With love from where I sit in India,

Trade show tales

Our stand this year was bigger than ever!

Our stand this year was bigger than ever!

One of our most hectic times of year is trade show season -- but it's also one of our favourites. It's always such fun travelling around the country, meeting new friends and reconnecting with old ones, and seeing people get excited about our products that have come out of months of creativity, planning and hard work. This year has been no different: we've just come back from a whirlwind run at the Life In Style and Reed trade shows. Want to take a look behind the scenes?

Our little trade show home, resplendent in greenery and bright wallpaper.

Our little trade show home, resplendent in greenery and bright wallpaper.

We're so excited about Spring 17 this year -- the collection is growing, with new Vintage by Naudic, loungewear and homewares alongside our bright, fresh Naudic collection. Not only that, we've launched an Essentials range to mix and match with your favourite Naudic prints, plus a whole new sister label: Coyote, which is pretty and tough with a strong south-of-the-border vibe. More on that in the coming weeks and months, but if the reaction at the trade show is anything to go off, you guys are loving the lot!

Thanks to everyone who came by the Naudic stand to say hi! Please get in touch if you have any queries about ordering for Spring 17.

Fashion for a cause

Naudic's Emma Puttick with Jenny Wilkinson, fundraiser extraordinaire.

We all love looking good, but it's so much better when you know you're doing good as well. That's why we were thrilled to partner with Jenny Wilkinson recently in her efforts to raise funds for the Mater Foundation's dementia research. Jenny's life has been touched too many times by dementia, first with her aunt and uncle Mary and Norman and then her dad Bill. She's now hard at work raising funds for research into fighting the disease, with a Miles for Memories trek through Yosemite National Park in the US later this year.

We opened our warehouse, usually closed to the public, for one night this month with a fashion parade and fashion sale, with a portion of Naudic sales going towards Miles for Memories. Between sale proceeds, a raffle and people's generous donations, the event managed to raise well over $1000 towards Jenny's cause.

It was one of the summer's hottest days, but it didn't stop us from having a great time.

If there's one setting that Naudic is made for, it's days by the water, and we proved that again recently with a glorious day trip around Southport on the Gold Coast. The event was Postcards from Summer, which saw the Naudic team and 60 fabulous ladies from around the Gold Coast explore the outlets of the Southport Marina on a boat from Crystal Blue Yacht Charters.

Gold Coast business Chic Travellers shared travel and style tips for some of their favourite cities, while I gave some style advice for travel, as well as a sneak peek at what's coming up in the new Naudic range.

Indian summer

I've been back on the sub-continent and the moment and wow, does it feel good. Planning for Summer 2017-18 (yes, we plan this far in advance!) is under way and there's something about being in India that lets the creative juices run so freely. The Naudic ethos is all about embracing the beauty of life, and being surrounded by the colourful bustle of India certainly reinforces this mindset!

We are so lucky to have such an incredible team on the ground in India and great premises to work from. This visit we were working from a new showroom. We've done a refresh and added a new floor to the building, entirely for Naudic sampling, new ideas, brainstorming and meetings. Such a fabulous place to work!

And the planning is certainly coming along well. Here's a sneak peek of what we've got in store for next summer -- it's all bold colours and luxe embroideries, perfect for Christmas parties, family fun and beachside wanderings.

But you know what they say about all work and no play! Despite a punishing schedule, I managed to slide off for some R&R at one of the finest day spas you'll find the world over, Imperial Hotel Salon, for one of their signature massages. Bliss!

And if you're ever feeling thirsty in New Delhi, I suggest the Captain's Cocktail at Delhi Club House, a new venture in Delhi, that gives comfort food, signature cocktails and a dash of old world charm. With vodka, orange chunks, lemon and a whole chilli, it's just about the yummiest thing you could ever find in a glass.

I spent my final day on the ground here in India checking over the upcoming High Summer delivery before making the long journey home... and jumping straight into being part of a fashion parade for 250 women at Dockside Landing at Portside here in Brisbane. A fundraising luncheon for the street kids of Bali, there could hardly be a worthier cause.

A chat with Mumma Ain't Mumsy's Sarah Merrett

Sarah looking gorgeous in Naudic's denim smocked tunic with two-year-old Matilda.

Sarah looking gorgeous in Naudic's denim smocked tunic with two-year-old Matilda.

One of our fave Instagrammers and personal stylists, Sarah Merrett - also known as Mumma Ain’t Mumsy - caught up with us to tell us a bit about herself, her style and this season's need-to-know trends!

How would you describe your style?

I really am a mixed bag! Everyday is different; overall I would probably say I am fairly classic, yet usually with a twist. I am a denim addict, I try to keep my style pretty stress-free and have a bit of fun.

Travel essentials?

Denim jacket, comfortable (mix and match) basics, pashmina style scarf, a couple of floaty dresses, comfy (but fun) sneakers, Kindle, sunscreen, family.

Style this Naudic Cape with a pair of tights in decadent maroon

Style this Naudic Cape with a pair of tights in decadent maroon

This season's must-haves?

This winter season I am loving the rich and decadent colour palette of maroons and mustards. These colours paired with denim or leather are definitely on the must-have list. We are also continuing to see a real throw back to the boho 70s vibes, however with much cleaner lines. Adding in a longline vest, flared sleeves or a little suede to an outfit is the perfect new-season update without needing a whole new outfit.

Favourite thing about Winter?

Definitely the layering! I am not a warm-weather girl at all. I love Winter fashion and layering tops, jackets, scarves, boots, denim, leather, I love the texture of winter knits mixed with other fabrics. I love wearing tights with boots, furry vests and felt hats. Haha – I could go on and on! I also love snuggling in bed with a good book, peppermint tea and a Freddo Frog.

Sarah beautifully styled in Vintage By Naudic Kimono Jacket

Sarah beautifully styled in Vintage By Naudic Kimono Jacket

We loved your picture in our Kimono Floral Lace from our upcoming Spring collection. What did you style it with?

The kimono … I just adore it! A real closet keeper for years to come! I wanted the texture of the kimono to be the hero, so styled it really simply (with a head-to-toe tonal palette) with a cream cami and cream flares underneath, one-strap heels and chunky shell choker for a little accessory fun.

Tell us 3 random things about you.

  1. I grew up in a small country town two hours north of Adelaide.
  2. Cane toads are my biggest phobia.
  3. Pretty Little Liars is my favourite TV show.

The 5 most worn pieces in your wardrobe?

Jeans, white T-shirts, sneakers, denim jacket, statement earrings.

And lastly - just a short and sweet one - heels or flats?

Heeled bootie style shoes whenever I can as I’m a super shorty … However the reality of running around after a two-year-old requires sneakers to be the current go-to.

Going troppo in north Queensland

Winter may be dawdling on its way to the southern parts of Australia, but you've got to admit it has been starting to get kind of frosty. Which was why it was such a delight to take a trip up north this month to visit some of our stockists -- old and new, and all lovely -- in North Queensland.

We're all about work-life balance here at Naudic, which at my frenetic pace usually translates to Work Hard, Play Hard. This trip was no exception! We had a packed schedule, which involved spending time in some of these gorgeous surrounds...

... But there was still time to take in the pleasures of the tropics!

We got our feet wet...

... and squeezed in a stop at a fresh juice stop (see what I did there?)

It was so lovely meeting old and new places up and down the coast at Mission Beach, Port Douglas, Palm Cove and Smithfield. Can't wait until next time I can get back there into that golden sunshine!

Yoga, tigers and new-season inspiration in India

A magnificent outdoor theatre

A magnificent outdoor theatre

I'm so lucky to be able to head to India a few times each year to meet with Naudic's trusted suppliers and this month's trip was extra special. The connections and relationships with these incredible artisans and organisers are getting stronger, helping Naudic to keep evolving and offering something new each season.

Quiet studio spaces free from interruptions give me the space to open up and be creative

Quiet studio spaces free from interruptions give me the space to open up and be creative

The work studios over there are amazing. I have beautiful, quiet creative spaces to work on all the next collections of Naudic, our Vintage by Naudic diffusion range, homewares and unique accessories. Away from the distractions of my usual life, I can slip into a creative flow that allows me to focus on the new embroideries, look for new fabric compositions and add that extra special Naudic twist to keep the element of surprise in our collections. Every single piece is handpicked by me, so there's a lot to get through in those few days and weeks!

Planning embroidery designs for the coming season

Planning embroidery designs for the coming season

In the middle of each trip, I always like to try something new. Sometimes that means visiting a new region and meeting the locals, sometimes it's practicing some yoga or eating the local food ... sometimes it's just allowing myself time for refection and review. This time I went on a yoga retreat at the base of the Himalayas. Hidden in the Jim Corbett National Park, I had the pleasure of meeting Mini, the best yoga teacher I think I've ever encountered.

Organic gardening -- what a way to get back to your roots

I also got to eat amazing fresh organic food grown there in the mountains. I even went on a safari and saw tigers! What a thrill -- it was like a real-life Jungle Book.

Dinner was outdoors every night under the stars, and by day, traditional chai tea was served by the lake. It was perfect: no schedules, no demands. Part of me wishes life could be like that all the time ... but then I'd never get to feel the rush that comes with being creative and productive!

I didn't really want to leave -- two weeks wasn't enough,  but the next trip is only around the corner. It's back home now for a few months before we hit the road to visit all our fabulous stockists for High Summer and Winter. I can't wait to share the new looks we have planned for you.

Take care,

Spring 2015 preview

With that winter chill in the air it's hard to think past the cold months ahead, but believe it or not we are already deep into Spring mode. We rolled out Naudic Spring 2015 at recent trade shows and were delighted to receive a fantastic response from retailers.

We have such fun planning and designing our trade show exhibit each year, and this year was no different. We had our very own Naudic marquee with a printed floor in our South Seas print designed by the talented Anna Chandler. Alongside the bright Naudic garments, the whole stand was a riot of colour that drew in plenty of trade show visitors.

A peek at what is to come in our Spring range: Stunning Talia Richman as our lookbook model, lovely Paula Walden showing off our new Vintage by Naudic range and some snaps of our fun trade show stall.

A peek at what is to come in our Spring range: Stunning Talia Richman as our lookbook model, lovely Paula Walden showing off our new Vintage by Naudic range and some snaps of our fun trade show stall.

We are so excited to deliver our Spring wares into stores in just a few months' time. For our campaign photoshoot we were very lucky the stunning Talia Richman was here visiting from New York. She is an absolute professional -- as well as obviously gorgeous!

Also coming in Spring will be Naudic's new label, Vintage. We nabbed the naturally beautiful Paula Walden for this shoot. She just hit the spot with her fun personality shining through.

While we're heading into winter down here in the southern hemisphere, our northern neighbours are just getting warmed up. We are off to the US again soon after delivering our first spring line to them. And they are loving it! One of our all-time favourite Naudic prints, the Ikat blue and red, is just leaping off the shelves over there. The Americans must like that red, white and blue -- so patriotic!

A very Naudic Christmas and a happy new year

The Christmas season is now in full swing, with that true hit of summer heat and carols on repeat in every shop you enter. Some may roll their eyes … but truthfully, here at Naudic we couldn't be more delighted. Any excuse to fill a table with friends, family and good food and indulge in a glass or two of bubbles is heartily endorsed by us.

We recently got the Naudic team together to celebrate the season. What a fun, talented group of ladies they are, in particular Lisa, who styled our party to perfection. Draw some inspiration from this gallery of her handiwork - featuring our lovely Naudic homewares, of course:

At our Christmas gathering, we reflected on a year of successes and milestones and toasted the year ahead. But none of this would have been possible without our incredibly supportive community of retailers, suppliers and Naudic fans - so a huge thanks to all of you, from the bottom of our hearts. We wish you nothing but joy, laughter and love this Christmas season and in the new year. Here's cheers to you!

Short and sweet New Zealand trip

I've just got back from the briefest but sweetest of trips to New Zealand. Along with meeting with some lovely new and existing clients to show off our upcoming Autumn/Winter 2015 collection, I also managed to fit in some family catch ups and a spot of wandering through Auckland's beautiful streets.

I stayed at Bella's Bed & Breakfast and had the some of the nicest organic muesli and fruit for breakfast that I've had in my life. Check them out -- they are a TripAdvisor 2013 Winner and you can instantly tell why. Will definitely put them on my "to stay" list for next time!

The food in New Zealand was out of this world. I love fresh produce, and we have some pretty good stuff in Australia, but New Zealand really takes freshness to the next level.

One of my favourite eateries was Bam Bina in Auckland's trendy Ponsonby. I can't wait to get back there and try the rest of the menu.

Back at my relatives' place, the fresh produce continued with a delicious kiwi Sunday afternoon BBQ… and some cuddles and play time with these cuties.

It was lovely to walk the streets of Ponsonby where I spent a lot of time in the first few years of my life. I checked out the wonderful restorations of some of Auckland's oldest cottages. I want one as a doing up project! Not that I could fit that in... maybe one day.

Seamless style from beach to street

These balmy, late-spring days, with their bright mornings and long, lazy evenings, are made for early swims and afternoon strolls along the waterside. A few well-chosen Naudic pieces are all you need for a quick and stylish transition from beach to street - and back again.

Beach

For beachside wanderings (and a quick dip), the Naudic Weekend Shirt, Pippa skirt and a scarf in a bright hue offer the perfect cover-up. Slip your feet into some Indian-inspired Naudic sandals and finish with a floppy hat, wayfarer shades and a chunky Naudic necklace or two. This is coastal dressing at its best.

Street

When it's time to head back to civilisation, sharpen up that Naudic Weekend Shirt and scarf with bright Naudic beads, some dark-wash denim, a metallic clutch and gold-tone aviators and watch. A pair of mid-heel clogs from our friends at Nordic Fusion round out the look with just the right blend of comfort and class.

What style staples help you go from beach to street?

Inspiration and restoration in India

The beautiful faces of some of the people I met on my India trip this year.

I am so blessed to have the opportunity to travel to India each year, partly to meet with our valued manufacturers who are based there, and partly for a kind of restoration and rejuvenation that seems unique to that amazing country. On each trip, I make it a priority to carve out some time to rest and reflect. Not only is this a pleasure in itself, but I am always amazed at the surge of creativity and inspiration I experience when I make myself slow down from my usual frenetic pace.

Starting the day the Naudic way - a bright outfit, a stunning view and a quiet cuppa. Paradise.

This year, my spot of serenity was found in the exquisite city of Jaipur. The city is known for its pink buildings and it definitely helped me see the world through rose-coloured glasses too! I stayed at the Tree of Life Resort and Spa and the hospitality was second to none. The food was incredible - the chef even put together a personalised menu just for me. How's that for making a girl feel special?

October is an ideal month to visit India if you're a fan of immersing yourself in the local culture as it is the month for several religious ceremonies. I was lucky enough to attend a few of these and was mesmerised by the whirling dancing, music and colourful costumes, especially at the celebrations for Gandhi's birthday. What a great vibe.

In-between days

Spring days are glorious things, aren't they? The mornings still carry a touch of winter coolness, but as the sun climbs higher it becomes warm and balmy, a taste of the summer days to come. Depending on where you are, some days are a bit more wintery, and some a little more summery. Luckily, some clever styling is all it takes for you to start enjoying your Naudic Spring goodies regardless of the temperature.

Chill factor

For days that are still on the chilly side, warm up our Ahlan maxi with a matching scarf and crocheted kaftan. Add a few Naudic necklaces and bangles, then style it back with a tote from our friends at Noosa Amsterdam, some Kenneth Cole Reaction clogs and a pair of timeless Ray-Ban aviators.

The heat is on

On warmer days, keep your cool in that same Ahlan maxi and colourful beaded jewellery, but this time worked with some easy-wearing Naudic plaited sandals. Grab a Naudic Spring tote bag, then get out there and enjoy the gorgeous weather!

How do you like to dress for the changing seasons?

New York trade show an adventure

What a huge month it has been for everyone at Naudic HQ. August is trade show month, and we have loved visiting our friends - and making new ones - in Melbourne, Sydney and beyond. This year, "beyond" took us further than we've ever been before: to New York City. We were part of the New York NOW trade show and, wow, was it a blast!

Our stand at the trade show was just as bright and colourful as you would expect. The Americans loved all the bold Naudic prints.

While in New York we managed to squeeze in some sightseeing. A helicopter ride over the city with an old friend from Stockholm was a truly incredible experience.

Fitness on the road

Trade show season is still in full swing: last weekend we were at trade shows in three countries simultaneously. We were spread across Fashion Exposed in Sydney, NY Newest in New York and Formex in Sweden. Exciting times!

With travel like this it can be easy to fall out of healthy habits but we can't afford to be anything but on top of our game. That's why we always pack a little fitness travel kit -- so we can stay on the move while we're on the move.

Naudic_Flatlay_Fitness_share.jpg

Healthy snacks

Fresh fruit is a must, as is plenty of water, especially after long, dehydrating flights. A single-serving portion of a high-protein food, like tuna, is great for filling up when healthy options are few and far between.

Fitness equipment

When stationary bikes, kettlebells and swimming pools aren't options, finding a place for a run almost always is. A compact towel, sporty watch and pair of sneakers are a must to tuck into the suitcase -- and don't forget the headphones and a kicking workout playlist!

Hotel workout

Even when we're truly hotel-bound, all is not lost. This great workout can be done using nothing but a wall, making it ideal for hotel rooms.

How do you make fitness a priority when you're travelling?
